Select the option for converting from the 12-hour clock to military time. The primary benefit of army time is that it is not complex or ambiguous. Confusion over AM and PM times is avoided by using the 24-hour format instead, which is especially useful for time-critical tasks like military maneuvers, airline schedules, and emergency response systems. In military time, 0000 or "zero hundred hours" is the correct way to indicate midnight (12 am). That said, you will find that people use both 2400 and 0000 interchangeably. Generally, when conversing with other military personnel in the same time zone, you will use the local time zone rather than GMT. Emergency services such as nursing homes, hospital wards, and intensive care units also use the 24-hour clock but do not refer to it as military time. In the Military, impactful missions happen around the world and around the clock. Doesn't get confused with p.m., service members use military time, which is based on a 24-hour clock, rather than a 12-hour system that civilians are most familiar with. For instance, 0333 can be read as zero-three hundred thirty-three hours. As the day is approximately 24 hours long, on the military time clock, the day begins at midnight – 0000 in military time – and ends at 2359. For easy reference in communications, a letter of the alphabet has been assigned to each time zone. The timezone for Greenwich, England has been assigned the letter "Z." The Military phonetic alphabet for the letter "Z" is "Zulu. The East Coast of the United States is denoted with the R letter (Romeo).
