Although it is often used as a synonym for the 24-hour clock, and the two are closely related, they are not the same. The 24-hour clock is the world’s most widely used time format, while military time is only used in some contexts, such as the military and emergency services. The first way to convert military time is to use a conversion chart like the one below. Find your standard time on the chart to see its equivalent 24-hour time. Naturally, there are differences to consider from one country and culture to another, and one of the most practical ones is the timing of your communications. As a refresher, the United States uses an AM and PM format, whereas the 24-hour clock, sometimes referred to as military time, is more commonly used in Europe. Here's a handy table to help you easily convert AM and PM times to a 24-hour clock time format. Military time is the popular time convention used in some countries including the United States of America and Canada that has helped get rid of the ambiguity of the conventional time format. In the Military Time clock, suffixes "am" and "pm" are removed thereby simplifying the time format making it easy for people to keep track of events without any confusion. This format is used in emergency services, military, hospitals, tourism and various other agencies where confusion in time can be detrimental. You express the time using the full hour, from 00 to 23 which show how many hours passed since midnight, followed by "hundred", then minutes, followed by "hours". In the full statement, you should also include the time zone, respectively. If you are saying a time crossing borders or in multiple time zones, you absolutely must use the military time zone chart. It may not be necessary if both parties are in the same time zone. Use the military time converter to quickly convert standard time to military time and vice versa. Adding 12 hours to any PM hour (excluding noon) and dropping the AM/PM indicator is how you convert standard time to military time.
